I have been in the mortgage business since 1993 and close about 50 million dollars per year on a personal production basis. I remember the passion and energy I had as a new loan officer in the business. I have been very lucky and consistent in closing 20-25 loans each month for the last several years. The business has changed a great deal over the last 15 years especially in the last year. In late 2006, I moved my team over to Alera from a small broker shop that I was at for the last decade. It was a big move. I moved our team over for a few reasons: growth potential, opportunity, vision, the ability to implement change and to be part of something which I felt would be the leaders as we moved forward in new mortgage market. The leadership was something that was bigger than our team was and I wanted to grow and learn and get better. My operations team is very happy and content with the efficiencies on the back end. My customers are ecstatic with the increased communication throughout the process.

I can tell you that I have a renewed deep level passion for the business. The excitement, the energy consumes me. I see the mortgage world changing and believe that Alera will be the next great mortgage company and we are part of it! I love the service, and am consistently in awe with the technology the company provides us. The marketing department here is great at providing tools to help our business grow and I am able to stay in production and build a team. I am able to create different legs in my business which is more secure and allows the ability to get paid even if I do not personally have a loan closing. I had to share a recent experience I had on a loan that my loan coordinator, Nicole, was working on for me.

On Friday, Nicole copied me on an e-mail to a client where she sent them an updated GFE once the payoff was received on the first mortgage to let the customer know how the cash out amount had changed because the payoff amount was higher than originally estimated. At first glance this would appear to be a common sense approach but it demonstrates a level of commitment to ensuring an excellent experience for the customer that I have rarely seen in my many years in the mortgage business. I can not tell you how many times in my career the processor and LO never bothered to check the payoff received against the payoff originally estimated and the customer came to closing and was disappointed with the change. It gives me great comfort to know that Nicole is so on top of her loans, that she communicates so well with our borrowers, and is an expert at her job.

I can promise you that my team is so impressed with her kind demeanor with our clients and attention to detail that we could never provide this level of service without her.

As a realtor, owner/broker, my top concern is that my buyers and sellers are treated fairly. My seller was going into foreclosure and had an auction date of the 22nd of February. We received an offer that morning, but the 1st mortgage holder did not cancel the auction. I then contacted the buyer agent and explained to her that if they could close by March 5th; her buyers would be able to still buy the home. Their mortgage broker could not close their loan in 6 business days. I then told her about Alera and we actually took the buyer’s loan application and Alera made it work. They even had the closing package to the attorney 24 hours ahead of time. This created a win-win situation for the seller and buyers. Trust is something that is built through time and performance. Alera has proven to me that I can trust them with my business.
